Nepenthes × dyeriana is one of the most iconic tropical pitcher plant hybrids ever created. A cross between Nepenthes northiana and Nepenthes maxima, it is prized for its massive pitchers, dramatically flared striped peristome, and vigorous growth. Mature plants are capable of producing some of the largest and most impressive pitchers found among commonly cultivated Nepenthes hybrids.

Each plant is sold as a small starter in a 2.5-inch clear round plastic pot. While young, these plants spend their energy developing a healthy root system before producing the large, colorful pitchers that have made this hybrid a favorite among collectors.

Nepenthes × dyeriana is generally considered an intermediate to lowland hybrid. It thrives in warm temperatures with moderate to high humidity and rewards growers with vigorous growth and increasingly impressive pitchers as it matures.

Its broad, heavily striped peristome and oversized traps make this hybrid an excellent centerpiece for any tropical carnivorous plant collection. Even as a young plant, it's easy to see why Nepenthes × dyeriana has remained one of the most recognizable hybrids for well over a century.

Care Notes

This intermediate to lowland hybrid grows best in bright indirect light. Strong lighting encourages healthy growth, larger pitchers, and more vibrant coloration while avoiding prolonged direct afternoon sun.

Use only distilled water, rainwater, or reverse osmosis water. Keep the growing media consistently moist but never waterlogged.

Plants are grown in a nutrient-free mix of premium long-fiber sphagnum moss, orchid bark, perlite, and horticultural charcoal. Avoid fertilizers, enriched potting soils, and mineral-rich water sources.

Warm temperatures, moderate to high humidity, and good airflow will encourage vigorous growth. As the plant matures, it will produce increasingly larger pitchers and eventually develop into a climbing vine capable of producing spectacular upper pitchers.
