The Venus Flytrap "Typical" (Dionaea muscipula) is the classic carnivorous plant that many growers start with and continue to keep in their collections for years. This is the standard form of the species, producing the familiar snap traps that close when insects trigger the sensitive hairs inside the trap.
Each plant is sold as a small starter in a 2.5-inch clear round plastic pot. While these plants are still young, they will continue to grow and produce larger traps over time when given proper care.
The "Typical" form is appreciated for its vigor, adaptability, and classic appearance. In strong light, the traps can develop attractive red coloration inside while maintaining a compact rosette growth habit.

Care Information
Light: Venus Flytraps grow best with at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight each day. More light generally results in stronger growth and better trap coloration.
Water: Use only distilled water, rainwater, or reverse osmosis water. Tap water can contain minerals that may damage carnivorous plants over time. Keep the growing media consistently moist and do not allow it to dry out completely.
Soil: Grow in a nutrient-free carnivorous plant mix. We recommend a blend of sphagnum peat moss and perlite.
Dormancy: Venus Flytraps require a winter dormancy period each year. During dormancy, growth slows and some traps may die back before new growth returns in spring.
If you're new to carnivorous plants, the Typical Venus Flytrap is one of the best places to start and a great addition to any collection.
