Drosera binata, commonly known as the Forked Sundew, is one of the most popular sundew species in cultivation and for good reason. Its long leaves divide into distinctive forked traps covered in glistening dew, giving the plant a unique appearance that stands out from many other carnivorous plants.

Each plant is sold as a small starter in a 2.5-inch clear round plastic pot. While young, these plants are vigorous growers and can quickly develop into impressive specimens with larger leaves and multiple growth points.

The sticky dew produced on the leaves is used to attract and capture small insects. In strong lighting, Drosera binata develops excellent dew production and can produce a striking display of forked traps throughout the growing season.

Care Notes

Drosera binata grows best in bright light to full sun. Strong lighting encourages healthy growth, larger leaves, and heavy dew production.

Use only distilled water, rainwater, or reverse osmosis water. Keep the growing media consistently moist and never allow the plant to completely dry out.

Plants are grown in a nutrient-free mix of sphagnum peat moss and perlite. Avoid fertilizers, standard potting soils, and mineral-rich water sources.

This is one of the easier carnivorous plants to grow and is a great choice for both beginners and experienced growers. As it matures, the plant can develop larger forked leaves and multiple growth points, creating an impressive clump over time.
