Dionaea muscipula ‘Piranha’ is a striking Venus flytrap cultivar prized for its heavily serrated trap margins and deep red interior coloration. Unlike a typical Venus flytrap, ‘Piranha’ develops short, triangular teeth that resemble the sharp teeth of a piranha, giving this cultivar its distinctive appearance.
Each plant is sold as a small starter in a 2.5-inch clear round plastic pot. Although young, these plants will continue to produce larger traps and more vibrant coloration as they mature under proper growing conditions.
Like all Venus flytraps, ‘Piranha’ captures insects using modified snap traps that quickly close when trigger hairs are stimulated. This unique trapping mechanism has made it one of the most recognizable carnivorous plants in the world, while the unusual teeth of ‘Piranha’ make it a standout in any collection.
This cultivar is an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced growers looking to add a unique Venus flytrap to their collection.

Care Notes
Dionaea muscipula ‘Piranha’ grows best in full sun, receiving at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day. More light encourages stronger growth, better coloration, and larger traps.
Use only distilled water, rainwater, or reverse osmosis water. Keep the growing media consistently moist but not waterlogged.
Plants are grown in a nutrient-free mix of sphagnum peat moss and perlite. Avoid fertilizers, enriched potting soils, and mineral-rich water sources.
Like all Venus flytraps, this cultivar requires a winter dormancy period each year. During dormancy, growth slows naturally before the plant resumes vigorous growth in spring.
